Brazil Team Sees Many People Saved
January 2010
Eighteen Baptists from the Kansas City area served in Brazil in mid-October for eight days of evangelistic outreach in the cities of Santos and Garuja.
The crusade was sponsored by International Commission and directed by Scott Mayse, IC representative. International Commission stages volunteer trips all over the world. It cooperates with the Southern Baptist International Mission Board.
Mayse was pastor of BYKOTA Southern Baptist Church, Pleasanton, Kan., for 18½ years. He is now an enlistment coordinator for International Commission.
Participating churches had prepared well for the crusade in Brazil, and more than 2,500 professions of faith were registered.
Jack and Marlys Wallace and Ryan Hudnall, members of Blue Valley Baptist Church in Overland Park, and Carl Garrett, pastor of the Rutlader Outpost Cowboy Church, Louisburg, Kan., served two of the churches in Garuja.
David Lopez, International Mission Board missionary in Brazil, served as Garrett’s interpreter. The two had previously worked together at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Overland Park, in starting Emmanuel Hispanic Baptist Church, which David pastored.
Mayse directed a crusade in Jamaica in mid-November. He will be assisting in other crusades in the coming year.
He will be leading a team to Jamaica Nov. 5-14, 2010.
“Come join us as we do the will of the Father in Jamaica. The weather will be nice, the fellowship with Jamaican Baptists will be sweet, and the mission of seeing others come to Christ will bring glory to God. Come and be a part of something great,” Mayse said.
