Choosing To Be Younger

Bombarded every day by gloomy news, death and destruction, its hard to keep in mind that God designed something as close to us as our very bodies to be in a constant state of renewal.  You replace about one percent of your cells every day, but you choose whether those new cells come in stronger or weaker.  Your choices program your cells.  Sedentary living, junk food and stress program our cells to age faster.  Exercise is what signals our cells to grow instead of fade away.  When we exercise a message is sent to every cell in our bodies, making a youthful difference in the way we function.  When you don’t exercise, your muscles send out chemicals telling the cells to decay.

Research shows that our mind and emotions change our cells through the same molecular pathways as exercise.  Anger, stress and loneliness decay our bodies as sure as sedentary living.  God not only designed our bodies to be renewed, but also our mind.

Romans 12:2

And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

We are an outward display, a revealing picture, of what is going on inside our bodies and minds.  Christ in us, our inner redeemed nature should shine forth every day as the Holy Spirit changes our thinking through the daily reading and study of God’s word.  Do your daily choices renew your body and mind?

Deuteronomy 30:19,20a

I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days….

Exercise and healthy food choices, as well as hope, love and community trigger the process of growth and renewal in our bodies, hearts and minds, and God’s blessing always follows obedience to God’s word.  Make life-giving choices today!
