Eagle Retreat Presses On In Spite Of Snow
By Tim Boyd
May 2009
The youth and adults who participated in Eagle Retreat 2009 will always remember it as the year of the big snowstorm. Salina received between 12-14 inches of snow from Friday afternoon into Saturday morning making this year’s Eagle Retreat a real challenge.
Forty students had registered for the event. Thirty-five made it in spite of the weather conditions. Some even came a day early so that they would not miss the event. Our retreat pastor, Andy Addis, left Hutchinson on Friday afternoon and travelled ten miles in forty-five minutes before he was able to move faster.
Eleven parents made it to Salina for the parent track even though the Saturday portion of their event had to be moved from First Southern Baptist Church of Salina to the Holiday Inn Express because of the road conditions. In spite of the travel difficulties, there were no wrecks.
The retreat itself went off pretty much as planned. The only exception was the Saturday afternoon recreation and the wiener roast. The youth seemed to enjoy the snowball fight that took the place of the planned recreation. And everyone seemed to handle moving the wiener roast indoors.
This year marked the completion of the TEFLON acrostic theme that has steered the direction of each retreat.
