Girl, Age 9, Raises Money For Missions

I want to share with you a ministry that God has laid on my 9-year-old daughter’s heart. It is called Meghan’s Challenge.

The ministry is designed to raise funds for a church we support in El Rosario, Nicaragua, called Casa de Dios. The funds that we raise go to purchase rice, beans, sugar, spices and Spanish-language Bibles for the rural community in El Rosario. Not only does this ministry feed the villagers physically, it also gives the church members an opportunity to share the gospel with those they serve.

Meghan felt God lead her to do this ministry when a short-term missionary at our church, Celebration Baptist, returned from a mission trip in the region and shared about the work God was doing there. So after praying she decided she would do lemonade stands at local churches here in Wichita.

God opened doors at seven churches here in Wichita, and God’s people raised over $1,600 for this cause. We were able to purchase enough food to feed 330 families for one week, 150 Spanish-language Bibles as well as purchase over 5,000 pounds of food for our local Good Neighbor Centers here in Wichita.

This year Meghan wants to expand the ministry. Casa de Dios has planted five more churches in the region and needs more support to purchase food and Bibles. This is their greatest outreach — the local people are really responding to God’s Word through the food distribution.

This ministry is run by my 9-year-old, my wife and me. We do not have an advertising budget, and we want to make sure that 100 percent of the funds go directly to the churches in Nicaragua. We are looking for children’s ministries to hold lemonade stands at their church between Memorial Day and Labor Day or consider Meghan’s Challenge during their VBS mission offering.

Not only would this raise money for food in the region, it will also give children a chance to be involved in growing the kingdom of Christ.
