Goin’ Deep

Luke 5:4 “When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, ‘Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
Wow. Deep Water.
Lord, I’m not a great swimmer. I really don’t like the deep water. I feel very comfortable in the shallow. I can splash around. I know my boundaries here. I’m really just a “sunbather” kind of girl. I like the paddle boats! I even like to stay on the shore and watch from there.
Deep water?
Yes, Lord, I hear you, but deep water is a little scary! I can’t see the bottom there, and it’s really dark! Who knows what is swimming around down there! I’m not familiar with that area, and besides I have friends who really LOVE the deep water. Maybe they could just go with you, and I’ll just stay here in the shallow. Would that be ok?
“Put out into the deep water.”
Well, I know the disciples followed your instructions and when they did, they caught so many fish their boat began to sink! You even provided some partners for them to call to for help! I like that! I like that you are with us when we need help! But Lord, you know I just don’t like the whole idea of that deep water thing.
But, what? You want me to keep reading? Ok…..
Verse 9 “For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken……”
Astonished….. Astonished at what You had done. Astonished at what they were able to accomplish together when they completely trusted you …..way out there IN the deep water!
Verse 10 “Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will catch men.”
Lord, that sounds amazing! You want to use US to bring men to you!
Verse 11“So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.”
Precious friends, January always gives us a new place to start. What will we do in ministry this year? What if God asks us to “Go Deep”? Are you willing to lay aside your fears and trust Him? What kind of blessings will be ours this year, as we learn to trust?
Steven Curtis Chapman sings,
“I’m divin’ in, I’m goin’ deep, in over my head I wanna be Caught in the rush, Lost in the flow In over my head I wanna go.”
Let’s go! Let’s not let any fear keep us from jumping in where God is already working! Go Deep!
Facebook me and share where He leads you!
Blessings!
