The grounds of Metropolitan Baptist Church in Wichita, Kan., were buzzing with activity on Saturday, April 12, during Festival Cristiano 2008.

The event was an outreach to Wichita’s Hispanic community that makes up about 20 percent of the local population. Volunteers from local Hispanic churches took the lead in staging the event assisted by a host of volunteers from Heart of Kansas Southern Baptist Association.

Out of the crowd of 800 people, nine adults and 35 children made first-time decisions for Christ.

Nacho Galindo, who is well known in the Hispanic community, was the featured preacher and musician.

The evening also featured a fair for children and a hotdog dinner prepared by the HOKSBA Disaster Relief Team.

Among the participating churches were:

  • Midway Baptist Church
  • Iglesia Bautista Getsemani
  • Iglesia Bautista Nueva Vida
  • Pleasantview Baptist Church, Derby
  • Metropolitan Baptist Church
  • Iglesia Rendicion
  • Iglesia Fuente de Paz
  • Immanuel Baptist Church
  • Tyler Road Southern Baptist Church
  • Metro East Baptist Church

KNCSB and the HOKSBA Missions Committee provided support for Festival Cristiano 2008.
