Hispanic Youth Equipped For ‘Journey’

Kansas-Nebraska Southern Baptist Hispanic youth were challenged to take Jesus with them on life’s journey.
The seventh annual Hispanic Super Summer was held June 21-25 at Webster Conference Center, Salina, Kan. It kicked off the Kansas-Nebraska Southern Baptist summer youth camps. “Journey” was the 2010 Super Summer theme.
Several campers accepted Christ as their personal Savior. Many other campers recommitted their lives to Christ.
Abraham Arevalo was back as the camp pastor after serving in that role last year. He is Hispanic church planter strategist in Heart of Kansas Southern Baptist Association.
Hispanic Super Summer helps equip Hispanic youth for the unique challenges of living in two cultures, Arevalo said. “Many of them are struggling a lot.”
Arevalo challenged campers to walk with Jesus through the challenges they face. The ultimate destination in this journey is “knowing Him more.”
With Hispanic Super Summer in its seventh year, youth who grew up attending the camp are now adults and have returned as sponsors.
Plus, 11 summer missionaries from Rio Grande Bible Institute in Edinburg, Texas, assisted with the camp. Arevalo and his wife, Ester, are RGBI alumni.
“They’re being great role models,” Arevalo said of the summer missionaries and young-adult sponsors.
In 2011, Hispanic Super Summer will be held June 20-24. It will again kick off the KNCSB summer youth camps.
