Independence Church Sees God’s Hand In Deliverance From Floods

Last summer Ben Mosley, pastor of Berean Christian Mission Center, was visiting with relatives in California when his son-in-law asked him how close he lived to Coffeyville. Ben, of course, said that Coffeyville was very close to his home in Independence. His son-in-law went on to tell him about the flooding that was occurring in Southeast Kansas.

As time went on, Mosley became aware that his church building was in the flooded area. He also heard that there was water up around the building and that there was probably damage inside. By the time he returned to Kansas from his visit with relatives the water had receded. Coming back into Independence Mosley said, “We came by the church before we ever went home.” “There had all kinds of signs on the door and a big ‘X.’ I went on in the building and looked around. My wife didn’t want me to go. But I told her it was dry inside. She said, ‘you’re kidding.’”

“Friday morning I called the city inspector and told him that I had found no damage. He asked me if I could meet him at the church building around eleven. I said, ‘I sure can.’ I met him and we came in and looked around. He had a big flashlight. He was just amazed. He said, ‘I just can’t believe it.’” The building was dry and undamaged. Mosley’s response to the inspector was, “Well, this is a house of prayer you know.” Some have suggested that perhaps they need to change the name of the building to Noah’s Ark. Homes all around the church building were condemned because of the flood damage.

The continuing miracle of this church is that this building is still available for the church to worship in until a new building, already being built at the time of the flood, is finished. That new building is scheduled to be dedicated later this spring or early summer. God has indeed looked with favor upon this congregation.
