International Church Celebrates The Love Of Christ In Valentine Event
March 2008
WICHITA - On Saturday, February 16th, The Mission (a church made up primarily of international students) held its fourth annual “Valentine’s Droovie.” A “droovie” is a cross between a drama and a movie. The story switches between live acting and video.
Over 200 were in attendance, mostly international students from Wichita State University. The event was held on campus at the CAC theater. This year’s show was called “The Checklist.”
The story followed Billy Bob, a bit of a geeky loner, who lives his life according to a checklist he uses to evaluate his time and his goals. He is rejected by the cool girl despite his attempts at learning to sing and dance for her. His friend gives him a Bible for his birthday and, after reading it, he goes to church with his friend where he accepts Christ and gets a new outlook on life. He and his new pastor’s daughter, Tracy, fall in love, and they live happily ever after.
After the performance, which included music and dancing, the message of Christ’s love was shared by Ron Pracht, Pastor of Olivet Baptist Church of Wichita.
This event was the result of ten months of preparation by dozens of students. Nick Huan, a student from Taiwan, was the producer. Praise Kurian (India) and Jennifer Hendra (Indonesia) wrote and directed the drama. Melissa Hendra (Indonesia) planned the music and led the band. Billy was played by Jeswin Joseph (Kuwait), and his two love interests were played by Rita Rai (Nepal) and Caroline Lebrun (Benin). Peterson, Billy’s friend who led him to Christ, was played by Jia Sheen Sim (Malaysia). Nikki Cunningham (Viet Nam) and Shane Chiam (Taiwan) were the artistic directors. Vincent Putera (Indonesia) was the videographer and editor.
