Kansas-Nebraska Equestrian Fellowship Having Fruitful Year
June 2008
It’s early in the riding season, but The Kansas-Nebraska Equestrian Fellowship already has three 2008 events in the rear-view mirror. In early February, the group gathered at Pleasantview Baptist Church in Derby, KS for an annual planning meeting. Thirty-four youth and adults met for dinner and fellowship. Afterwards the group discussed plans the coming year.
Their first concern was EquiFest 2008, the “lawn and garden show” of the equestrian world. Vendors from across the county assembled inside the Kansas Coliseum north of Wichita to display products and services available in today’s equestrian market.
Again this year, KNEF volunteers set up a booth to hand out The Way For Cowboys (a New Testament designed specifically with the horseman in mind) and a variety of evangelistic tracts. About 20 KNEF members worked Friday - Sunday and distributed more than 1000 New Testaments and nearly 1500 evangelistic tracts entitled How To Get To Heaven From The Flint Hills of Kansas and How To Get To Heaven From The Rodeo Arena.
Then on Saturday afternoon, March 29, a group of about 45 horse enthusiasts gathered at Mattox Arena in Derby. “Mattox Arena is one of our favorite gathering places in early spring and late fall,” said Don Mayberry, convener of the group. “When the weather is questionable, we go to Mattox. If it’s nice we ride the trails along the Arkansas River or play in the outdoor arena. If the weather is not so good, we stay in the indoor arena. Either way, our folks know they will have a great day of fun and fellowship at Mattox Arena.”
The KNEF has four more events on the 2008 calendar: June 21 at Pawnee Prairie-Wichita; August 23 at Winfield Lake, Winfield, KS; October 4 at Kanapolis State Park, west of Lindsborg, KS; and November 15 at Mattox Arena, Derby, KS.
