Ken James Hands Off To Jon Sapp

By Ken James / Jon Sapp

January 2010

As our editor noted last month, I have written my last article as your Evangelism Director.  Lavonne and I want to take this opportunity to say “THANK YOU” for allowing us to serve the churches of Kansas Nebraska for these past eleven years.  We have truly been blessed to work with so many fine pastors and lay-folks in sharing Interfaith Evangelism Conferences, as well as Evangelism Training Clinics.  What a joy it has been to work alongside my colleagues in the Baptist Building!  I am grateful to Dr. Lindsay for affording me the opportunity to serve with such a fine team.

Our official retirement date is January 31.  We will continue to serve KNCSB as a consultants for Interfaith Witness Ministries.

Now, it is my delight to turn the reigns over to Jon Sapp.  All things are in place for implementing GPS in our churches for the next decade, and Jon has already been engaged in some of the planning and in many of the key decisions.  I know that he will provide very capable leadership in challenging and equipping our folks for evangelism.

So, Jon, I will be praying for you as you assume the responsibilities of the office of Director of Evangelism for KNCSB………………………………….

Kansas Nebraska Baptists, it is my privilege to follow Ken in serving you as your Director of Evangelism.  In addition to this responsibility I look forward to working with our Collegiate Ministries across our two states.  Ken and the KNCSB Staff have been supportive and encouraging during these months of transition.  Therefore as we begin this new assignment, Priscilla and I want to say our “Thank You” to all of you that have prayed for us and with us during these past 26 years as your missionaries serving in Africa.  We have seen churches and campus ministries partner with us in making Christ known in both rural and urban settings in Africa.  Your partnership and support made our return a simple decision.  Again, “thank you!”

Evangelism is our God given responsibility.  God’s Plan for Sharing unfolds opportunities for all of us to grow in being His witness.  God is at work all across Kansas/Nebraska.  In these past 11 months of being in churches all across the two states we have met new believers and learned of how folks are growing in their personal relationship with the Lord.  I want to serve you in the coming months to provide opportunities for training in prayerwalking, broad seed sowing and preparation for Easter Sunday.  Ken and I have been working with your Directors of Missions to consider the best use of television spots for the month of March to prepare for Easter.  Many of you will have the opportunity to link with the attractive 30 second television messages.  These will be playing during both the morning and evening time slots three weeks before Easter Sunday.  Your church will have access to banners that have the same look and message of the “Find It Here” advertisements for television.

The bottom line is that as your next Director of Evangelism I do want to encourage, support and strengthen your plans and strategies for telling the lost about the love and good news of our Savior.  I look forward to meeting more of you as we walk this journey together of becoming all He wants us to be for His glory.
