KNCSB Staff Mourns Death Of Karen Stover

December 2011

Karen Stover, 28-year KNCSB employee, died on Wednesday, Sept. 28, after a short, hard battle with ovarian cancer.

Her official job title was mailroom supervisor. She also worked in the KNCSB Lending Library which loans DVDs by popular Bible teachers to Kansas-Nebraska Southern Baptist churches.

But Stover took on many other tasks that kept the Baptist Building running smoothly — from watering the plants to handling food-related logistics for meetings in the building. She worked quickly and efficiently behind the scenes never wanting to draw attention to herself.

Her servant heart extended beyond the Baptist Building. She was a charter member of Western Hills Baptist Church in Topeka. Stover was the church photographer and taught Sunday School there for more than 19 years.

Stover also used her photography talent to serve people. She took pictures at weddings, often not charging for her services.

She also had a thriving house-sitting business. Her clients appreciated being able to place their homes and pets in her care while they traveled.

Survivors include her mother, Elizabeth Claiborne of Fresno, Calif.; her sons, Chuck Stover and wife Hope of Topeka; Jon Stover and wife Stephanie of Leland, N.C.; three brothers, and four grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her father and her grandson Raymond.

The funeral was held Monday, Oct. 3, at Western Hills Baptist Church in Topeka. Officiating ministers were: Grant English, Western Hills’ pastor; Peck Lindsay, retired KNCSB executive director; and Terry McIlvain, KNCSB director of youth ministries.

Memorials may be sent to Webster Conference Center in care of KNCSB, 5410 SW 7th St., Topeka, KS 66606.
