KNCSB volunteers have begun working in Greensburg, Kan., following the devastating tornado on May 4.
A team of 10 people worked there the week after Thanksgiving under the leadership of Elijah “Touch” Touchton. He is the KNCSB disaster-relief rebuilding coordinator.
“We helped complete wiring on the Community Center which is also the Volunteer Village. We hung doors in a new house and helped complete the wiring. Plus, we hung doors and installed trim in a house they plan to use for volunteers.”
KNCSB volunteers will return to Greensburg Feb. 10-16, 2008. “This is when we will have a team from Canada,” Touchton said.
During the entire month of March 2008, the city of Greensburg will be hosting student teams on spring break. Plans call for building six houses during the week after Easter.
KNCSB volunteers will be serving in Greensburg during the last two weeks in March, plus the following 2008 dates:
- April 13-19
- May 11-17
- June 8-14
In addition, KNCSB teams are working in Neodesha, one of the Kansas communities hit by mid-summer flooding. The next date is Jan. 7-12.
