KNCSB Women Share With Canadian Ministers’ Wives

What happens when 14 ministers’ wives from Canada and three women from Kansas get together for a weekend retreat: lots of food and fun; teaching and praying; giving and receiving; laughing and crying.

Patti Boswell of Wichita, Kan., Debbie Eble from Osawatomie, Kan., and Leslie Hazelet of Garden City, Kan., spent most of three days and two nights in the beautiful Shekinah Retreat Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Some of the ministers’ wives who had attended a similar retreat in 2005 remembered with fondness the wonderful time they had then and were excited for this second opportunity.

It is difficult for these women to find the time and the finances to break away from their homes, jobs and responsibilities in order to come to a retreat like the one held for them the weekend of June 12-14. But they were so glad things worked out for them to attend. For some, this retreat was the first they had ever attended, and they expressed sincere thanks at being given the opportunity. New friendships were forged, not only between the women of Kansas and the women of Saskatoon, but also between the wives themselves, providing a network of emotional and spiritual support as they work beside their husbands in the ministry.

These ministers’ wives were very appreciative of the partnership between Kansas-Nebraska and Canada, and the care and support they feel because of the partnership. One of the women said, “You have given up so much just to come here. We feel very special. Tell all the women of Kansas-Nebraska ‘Thank you.’”
