Lao Mission In Winfield Celebrates New Building

The Lao Baptist Mission in Winfield, Kan., held its first worship service Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, in the former Rainbow Preschool building on East 19th Street.
The Lao mission is in the process of purchasing this property for a permanent church location. It is a new church start sponsored by Central Baptist Church in Winfield.
Financial support is provided by Central Baptist Church, South Central Association of Southern Baptists, KNCSB, and the North American Mission Board.
Blake Orr, as pastor of Central, has functioned as a mentor and help to the Lao group in obtaining all the necessary documents as it moves toward becoming a self-supporting church.
The Lao group held their first meeting in July 2006 under the leadership of Pastor SiSouk Phothisane. They began meeting in the old sanctuary space at Central Baptist Church and have continued to hold their Sunday School, worship service and other activities at Central until the recent move to the building on 19th Street.
Pastor Phothisane was licensed to the gospel ministry on July 15, 2006, by the Laotian Baptist Church in Wichita. On June 2, 2007, he was ordained to the gospel ministry at Central Baptist Church. Participating in the service were Lao leaders from Wichita; the Kansas City, Kan., area; Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Mo.; and the Lao Southern Baptist Fellowship, Dallas, Texas.
Georges Boujakly, KNCSB director of ethnic missions, was also present for this service.
Pastor Phothisane and his wife, Kone, moved to Winfield from Olathe, Kan. At present he is a bivocational pastor.
Pastor Phothisane and the Lao Baptist Mission invite all Laotians in the area to come worship with them. All services are in the Lao language. Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m.
Other activities include a Thursday night women’s Bible study and an all- church Bible study on Saturday night.
