Missionary Prayer Requests

September 2008

A Missionary Kid (MK) from Panama is starting college in Virginia.

Kansas-Nebraska Southern Baptists are asked to pray for Christine Hansen as she enters Liberty University in Lynchburg.

Her parents are John Mark and Cheryl Hansen, Nebraska missionaries who work with Chinese people in Panama.
Before the last-minute rush of packing and saying good-bye to friends, Christine went on a mission trip to Peru.
“She surprised herself and was very involved in children’s ministry. Usually she has been more focused on youth and adults,” her parents report in their e-mail newsletter. “It was a great trip—the big outreach concerts they performed were awesome.”

The Hansens ask for prayer as they adjust to the “empty nest.”

Emily Elliott, Nebraska missionary serving in Niger, West Africa:

The newest group of Hands On students arrived in early August. (Hands On Africa is a semester missions project for students.)

They flew into Niamey at 4 a.m. and then were up and going by 10:30. We had a full first day of orientation with getting to know each other, hearing each person’s story, learning to take a taxi, fix dinner and then French greetings.

“Please pray for this group to be like stars shining in the darkness. Pray they would have the unity and boldness necessary to share the Truth of Jesus with those they meet. Pray for their supervisors to have the wisdom and energy they need to be good mentors. Praise God for bringing 17 people to serve in West Africa for five months!

“It’s supposed to be rainy season here, which normally means one rain a week or so. But we haven’t had that these last couple of months. Crops have been planted but there’s not been enough water for them to grow. People are already having to cut back on their normal portions of millet, corn or rice that they eat daily. Pray that God would send rain this season. Also pray that we who live here would have the wisdom to know how to help.”
