New Year’s Resolution

January 2010

11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:11 (NIV)

It is the beginning of a new year, 2010.  Did you make a New Year’s resolution?  I never do. I always fail and I do not like that feeling. However, a long time ago I settled in on something that profoundly changed how I approached my new year. I started asking God to give me a verse to pray for a whole year for my family, the ministry He allows me to serve through and me. The first year I asked God to give me a verse, I felt led to pray Luke 8:37-38. It describes the woman washing Jesus’ feet with her tears. I journaled this in my Bible:

I claim these verses become a reality in our lives in 2010. May we too:
1) Seek You out
2) Stand behind You or kneel before You
3) Weep at Your Majesty and Presence
4) Clean Your feet (Bless You & others You want us to bless)
5) Give You our kisses affectionately, lovingly, and wholly
6) Give You our best, In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!

I had no idea that we would face a major life crisis in our lives that year. My husband worked for Enron and it collapsed. It was also the year of 9/11.  The LORD showed me in a powerful way that His Word will not return void. He graciously reminded me on a regular basis how praying this verse over our lives equipped us for the trials we endured. We left our families, vibrant ministries, and hometown to move to the Midwest. Yet, through all of it, we found ourselves simply wanting to bless Jesus with our actions.

The only thing that will not return void in our lives is the Word of God. It is powerful and effective to equip us. So, what is your New Year’s resolution?  Pray and ask God to help you pick a verse to pray over that particular need. Then wait upon the LORD and watch and be amazed!

I wish I could be with you now to connect with you—face to face, heart to heart, and pray your verse over you personally. If you want to share it with me or need help picking a verse that might apply, write me a note @ .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
