Plans Are Underway For Missionary Parents Fellowship
By Marvin and Gloria Wiss
September 2008
We were excited to attend the fourth national International Mission Board Missionary Parent Retreat, “Missionary Parents: Partners in the Task,” held April 24-27, 2008 in Richmond, Va., with parents attending from 28 of the 50 states.
Parents were divided into four groups according to regions in which their children serve as Southern Baptist representatives. Along with a tour of the Richmond IMB regional offices, parents worshiped together in the International Learning Center and listened to IMB leaders address concerns such as security and safety issues, medical care and services.
The main emphasis was on partnering with the service of our children and their families on the field and to seek a better understanding of God’s vision for the world.
Eleven states already have Missionary Parent Fellowships (MPF’s) in existence: Alabama; Arkansas; Florida; Georgia; Kentucky; Louisiana; Mississippi; North Carolina; South Carolina; Tennessee; and Texas.
Our Kansas-Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists is launching its MPF in 2009 through the Women in Missions and Ministry Team.
Mari Jaquith, Team Leader, and Nancy Lawson, Missions Advocate, are working with missionary parents Marvin and Gloria Wiss and Virginia Mixer in trying to gather names of IMB missionary parents who live in Kansas or Nebraska.
If you can assist us, please contact Mari Jaquith at , or call KNCSB at (800) 984-9092 with names, addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, as well as names and regions/countries where Kansas-Nebraska missionary parents’ children serve.
Plans being considered for the first gathering in spring 2009 at Webster Conference Center, Salina, Kan.
Any parent of IMB missionaries currently in service on the field will be welcomed to be part of this parent support network.
