Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut, Sometimes You Don’t.

Each of us has a distinct, God-given personality. I am married to a pastor, and he’s the out-going one! In a crowded room, he has an audience. I’m in the corner enjoying a one-on-one conversation. As grandparents, he’s the “crazy-wrestling-on-the-floor” one, while I’m the “build playhouses, read books, explore nature” one.  So different, and yet both serving a purpose, and used by the Father!

I’ve been teaching a series of lessons on servant- hood recently, and God uses scripture to teach, convict, encourage and remind me of my human-ness and HIS greatness, one more time!

These lessons focus on having a servant heart, meeting other people’s needs, investing in the lives of others, bringing people to God through our serving them.  We all know Matthew 5 teaches us we are to be salt and light. I started thinking about people’s personalities, and how different we all are! For some of my teens at church, this is a scary unit! Even for some adults, these are frightening thoughts. But yes, even for those of us who are not particularly outgoing by nature, we are without excuse.

As women, our personality, or our mood, can change with the seasons! Some days you feel confident accepting a new challenge or ministry at church. Other times, you break out into a cold sweat just thinking about taking on a new adventure. This is when we must remind ourselves of God’s word, and how He admonishes us to be servants.  It is here we remind ourselves that we are His tools. He doesn’t say, “If you are feeling good about life today, then go serve.” He doesn’t say, “If you are feeling bold in your witness today, go and witness”. He simply tells us to be salt and light! It doesn’t matter if we have a bold personality, or the extreme opposite, we are all to serve. We simply use the personality He has given us, and look for creative ways to use it!

The key here is to remember that the focus is not on us, but on Him, and the needs of others. When we do this, serving comes very naturally.

So are you salty, or un-salty? Is your light shining brightly, or is it a flicker? Do you feel like a nut? Or not?

Philippians 2 says, “If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.”

Matthew 5:16- …”Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

That’s all of us……Nuts and all!
