Southeast Kansas Baptists Minister To The Homeless In Fort Worth, Texas

March 2008

A team of 90 people spent the last weekend in January ministering at Beautiful Feet homeless ministries in the inner city of Fort Worth, Texas.

Trinity Baptist Church in Pittsburg, Kansas, sponsored the trip. It is an annual project of Tri-County and Twin Valley associations in Southeast Kansas.

Team members were divided into work groups to perform works of love, each with a task to complete in record time.

The Construction Teams:

  • Repaired the leaking baptistry and sealed it with latex paint.
  • Scraped exterior windows, replaced glazing, and painted them.
  • Removed two front windows; fabricated and installed new ones.
  • Dug up and extended a water line in the east parking lot.
  • Installed five new lights in the parking lot.
  • Weatherproofed an exterior wall at the Boot Camp and removed a brick wall for an overhead door.
  • Applied two coats of paint to the east exterior wall at Victoria en Cristo Church, and cleaned, prepared and varnished the pews.

The Food Team:

  • Helped prepare a Friday hot dog meal for the homeless who were brought in by bus.
  • Fixed food for three meals for the homeless on Saturday and Sunday.

Members of the Street Ministry Team went out twice on Saturday and shared care packs and knapsacks made by church members back home. God gave many unique opportunities to share His love and message of salvation.

The Children’s Ministry Team held an afternoon Vacation Bible School for children who were brought by bus from housing projects. Kids enjoyed the Bible stories, crafts, music and gift bags that were sent by Southeast Kansas churches.

Beautiful Feet’s clothing closet was almost empty when the team arrived. The team brought a mountain of clothing and tackled the task of sorting, sizing, and marking everything. The items were then placed in the clothes closet. Other clothing items were put in storage totes to be used later. This project took eight hours of work by many hands.

In addition, brand-new shoes, underwear, stocking caps, and knapsacks were given to the homeless.

This ministry blesses the Beautiful Feet staff and the homeless as well as every team member. The team arrived back home with the satisfaction of knowing that God touched many lives for eternity that weekend.
