Summer Missions Ideas For Kids

Summer is just around the corner. School will be out, the pool will be open, and the park will be full of people.

As summer approaches and the weather gets warmer, I like to get outside and get some chores done. Not only do I like to do some things for myself, but I begin to think of some things I can do for the Lord.

The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 4:11 “to study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we did command you.” It is good to work with our hands.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:11, it says, “And so encourage one another and help one another, just as you are now doing.” We should encourage each other and build each other up. We do mission projects because we love God, want to serve Him and please Him. A chore done as a mission project can be useful in winning someone to Christ.

Here are some ideas for some mission projects you could do this summer:

  • Collect food for or help clean and organize a food pantry
  • Send a letter to a Missionary Kid
  • Mark a Bible with the Romans Road and give it to a friend
  • Help an elderly person clean their yard
  • Make a friend at a nursing home and visit weekly
  • Ask your pastor if there are some jobs around your church you can do
  • Bake some cookies for a homeless shelter
  • Ask your family to go to Webster Conference Center, Salina, Kan., for a work weekend.

These are a few ideas from me, but I’m sure you can come up with your own as well.

Have fun and happy summer!
