The Thought Occurred To Me

By Bob Mills

May 2010

In my article this month, I have had to resist continuing to speak about the Great Commission Resurgence task force report. My response to the initial task force report is on our KNCSB website (http://www.kncsb.org). I will continue my response when the final report is released in May and we know about the actual content of this report.

The role of the state convention is to bring the resources of all our churches together in a cooperative strategy to carry out the Great Commission. Making disciples of all people groups (ta ethna) is at the heart of the Great Commission.  Thus the vision of KNCSB is, “Churches making disciples of people everywhere.”  It is the transformation of lives that will transform churches that in turn will transform the world for the sake of the gospel.  Therefore the mission of KNCSB is, “assisting in the development of disciple-making churches among every people group in Nebraska and Kansas.”

The question then becomes, what does it mean to be a disciple? “A disciple is one who is becoming like Christ for the sake of others.”  Discipleship is a comprehensive journey of intentionally becoming like Christ for the sake of others.

KNCSB missionaries believe we can add value to our churches by helping them focus on the Great Commission mandate. These four discipleship themes will be the focus of KNCSB as we engage the associations and churches in Kansas and Nebraska.

1. SHARING
• Sharing the Gospel with people everywhere: in our communities, our associations, our state convention, our country and the world.
• Sharing the Light of Christ with a lost and dark culture.
2. STARTING
• Starting new churches to meet the spiritual needs of those being saved.
• Starting evangelistic outreach points designed to reach those not yet saved.
3. STRENGTHENING
• Strengthening efforts of the churches to be healthy in membership and leadership.
• Providing an opportunity for churches to recapture their vision and to dream again.
4. SENDING
• Sending the Body of Christ into the world.
• Challenging our churches to engage the world with the Good News of Christ.
