The Thought Occurred To Me

…“There Is No Place like Home”
When Dorothy uttered those words, there was a sweet peace and recognition of what home really means. For me, home means the Great Plains of Kansas and Nebraska. There is a warm welcoming reality when I see those road signs that say welcome to Nebraska or welcome to Kansas. I breathe a deep sigh of relief every time I pass one of those signs. I am home! There is nothing like returning home or remembering what home is like.
In the same vein, I think about the needs in both states and how I am overwhelmed with the lostness, spiritual darkness, struggling churches, and infant believers that seem to be all around me. Our Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria are really dark places just like the ends of the earth. I trust we will not fall into the trap of thinking that missions is only somewhere outside the United States. We as Southern Baptists, as Kansas-Nebraska Baptists, must remember our responsibility to the entirety of the of Acts 1:8 challenge as well as to the Great Commission.
Financially, how do we as Southern Baptists support the Great Commission and the Acts 1:8 challenge? It is through our Cooperative Program giving and through our Viola Webb State and Associational Mission Offering. In light of our national economy and the results of the Great Commission Resurgence Report, the Viola Webb State and Associational Mission Offering (VWMO) becomes more important than ever. Offerings given by our churches go to support the mission causes of our associations and state convention. Fully, half of what your church gives to the VWMO stays right in your association to support the evangelism, church planting and ministry strategies of your association. The remaining half comes to the state convention to undergird the missions and evangelism work of the two state convention.
Let me ask you to pray for this year’s highlighted missionaries everyday and prayerfully consider what you will do financially to assist the work here at home. Remember, there is no place like home, there is no place like home…
