Upcoming Opportunities For Nurses In Kansas And Nebraska

March 2010

The Kansas/Nebraska Baptist Nursing Fellowship (KNBNF) is planning their second annual Spring Continuing Education program.

Last spring’s conference was in Kansas City, Kansas, and focused on preparing nurses to minister to others through overseas missions and in their own communities.  This year’s program will be on “Camp Nursing” and will be held at Webster Conference Center on Saturday, June 5, 2010, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon. Jackye Feldman, RN, MSN, ARNP, CNS, will be leading the conference. Lodging will be available for individuals wishing to arrive on Friday evening, June 4.  The cost for lodging, breakfast on Saturday, and the conference will be $25.00.  For individuals arriving on Saturday morning, the cost for the program is $10.00.  Three Nursing Contact Hours will be given by Salina Regional Health Center for those attending this conference.  Individuals do not need to be members of KNBNF to attend.

The program will include the role of the camp nurse, liability issues, dealing with common problems, wellness teaching etc. as well as a tour of the nurse’s first aid station at Webster Conference Center. Registration deadline for this program is Friday, May 28, 2010.  Each year it is a challenge to get enough nurses to cover all the youth and children’s camps at Webster Conference Center.  Hopefully this spring conference will inform and inspire nurses in order that more will offer their services for these camps. For camp dates see the calendar of activities at http://www.kncsb.org

FamilyFEST, July 10-16, 2010, in Wichita, Kansas, will also provide ministry opportunities for health care professionals, their families others.  Opportunities will be available for wellness education, health screening, well baby checks etc.  Nurses who speak both English and Spanish are especially needed. See related article for more information.  All nurses and health care professionals are encouraged to volunteer their services for one or more of these ministries. To register for FamilyFEST go to http://www.wmu.com/Get Involved/ In Your Community.
