Volunteers Gather In Lincoln For Disaster-Relief Training
July 2010
Pastor R.D. Fowler and Bethel Baptist Church, Lincoln, Neb., hosted a Disaster Relief training event on Saturday, May 15. The first part of the classroom session was Disaster Relief Basic Training, better known as “Yellow Hat” training. The second session related specifically to staffing a chainsaw unit with a strong emphasis on safety.
After the classroom sections were completed, the group moved outside to get some hands-on training. They were given an overview of all the equipment that is included in the Eastern Nebraska Baptist Association Chainsaw Unit and then had the opportunity to put on the safety equipment (helmet with face and ear guards, chaps, and gloves), start up a saw, and cut into a log.
ENBA’s Disaster Relief Coordinators Art and Debbie Push were excited as it was the first disaster-relief training hosted in Lincoln.
Members of Bethel in Lincoln as well as Westside Church, Omaha, Living Water in Plattsmouth, and LifeSpring Church, Bellevue, attended. Cecil Dale, director of missions for Northeast Baptist Association and a seasoned chainsaw team participant, led the training.
