What Are You Doing This Summer?

Summer can be a busy time for women. Between running the household and organizing the kids’ social/sport events, it is hard to find time alone. How in the world can we find time to do anything missions minded? So I thought I’d do the hard work for you and come up with some ideas. These are ideas that we should be able to do and are easy to work into the busy summertime activities.
The days that scheduling only allows supper to be a quick-stop restaurant or drive-through pickup are an opportunity to show your family how to be missional “on the go.” It is as easy as tipping the fast-food worker and giving an encouraging word like, “This is just a small token to say thanks for working hard and please know that God loves you.” Or have your children make thank-you cards during the week and keep them in the car for giving to retail workers.
The next idea is for women who spend time getting in shape for the summer “swimwear months.” Spring and summer are when we seem to really be serious about exercise, and it is a great opportunity to meet with neighbors and friends to walk in the mornings. While walking, not only can you share how God is working in your life, but you can also be praying for the neighborhood. Now don’t be discouraged if you don’t have a group or even one person to walk with, you can still walk and pray by yourself!
This is also one that can be done individually, but the more people involved the more effective. Since most often women are the ones who do the grocery shopping, this mission project can be integrated into your day.
On your next trip to the grocery store pick up extra toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, a hairbrush, and other toiletries. Then buy a medium-size plain gift bag, or use those extra bags from the Wonderful Weekend for Women you have stashed away, and put the toiletries inside to make care bags. Deliver them to the local fire station for families who lose their homes to fires. Don’t forget to put in a Bible with encouraging scripture underlined.
This is only a start; there are so many ways to incorporate missions into your daily life. We must be intentional in all we do to show God’s love to others.
