Women at FBC, Mulvane, KS, Accept Mission Challenge
By Barbara Crawford
July 2008
Cody Busby, Pastor of First Baptist Church, Mulvane, KS issued a challenge to the church for every member to participate in a mission project in the next two years. Our class of older women found one we could participate in.
Fourteen women from our class went to Bartlesville, OK, on June 8th to volunteer at the Voice of the Martyrs headquarters. Voice of the Martyrs is a non-denominational organization that brings attention to and ministers to persecuted Christians around the world.
We were provided a very nice place to stay. Our only expense was transportation and food. Our group logged 465 hours in 5 days.
We were very impressed with Voice of the Martyrs. They are highly organized and use the latest technology. They have grown phenominally in the past 8 years. They employ around 100 people and many volunteers.
We worked with volunteers from Florida, South Carolina and Texas. They have a mailing list of 320,000.
They recently had an article in Reader’s Digest that resulted in 50,000 responses.
We stuffed envelopes, prepared brochures, etc. They also ship bibles to many countries. This project is called “Bibles Unbound” based on 2 Tim. 2:9.
This was a wonderful experience that we would recommend to other groups or families. We plan to go back.
