Women Gather For Annual OTBA Retreat
June 2008
A woman who has experienced unfathomable tragedy in her life shared how God has sustained her. Lora Jones, a former pastor’s wife in Nebraska and Kansas, was guest speaker for the annual Oregon Trail Baptist Association Women’s Retreat. The event was held April 25-26 at Calvary Baptist Church in North Platte.
The retreat attracted 34 women from 11 churches. They came from as far away as Chadron in the far northwest corner of Nebraska.
Jones lost her husband, J.L., and her children, Jayden and Janessa, in a traffic accident in November 2004. The family was en route from Miami, Okla., where J.L. was pastoring at the time, to Liberal, Kan., to spend Thanksgiving with their families.
She and her husband served in Clay Center, Kan., and Grand Island, Neb., before moving to Oklahoma.
Jones reminded the women “that no matter how bad you think things are, God is still there, and He doesn’t want you to give up,” said Brenda Lee. She is the association’s coordinator of women’s ministry and WMU.
Jones is now living back home in Liberal. Her husband was OTBA’s moderator while the family was still living in Nebraska.
