What Would We Do Without WCC?
February 2008
Many of you remember the early days of Webster Conference Center at Salina, Kansas. It is amazing to see what God has done in these past years in the development of this center. It has become a hub of activity for Kansas and Nebraska Baptists. Numerous retreats are done there every year. Our youth gather there every summer for Super Summer. It is hard to imagine what we would do without Webster Conference Center.
The future is even brighter for Webster Conference Center. We are in the midst of constructing a new multipurpose building on the campus. As funding and volunteers become available, we are completing more and more of this new structure. It will add a whole new dynamic to the life of the center. More people and more activities will be better served when this building comes into service.
A new facet of service was discovered in late 2007 when the center was called upon to provide disaster relief services for flooding in the area. Recently, Terry McIlvain, Administrator of Webster Conference Center, received a letter from the Red Cross thanking him for the contribution that Webster Conference Center made during that disaster. I quote from the letter:
Thank you for allowing us the use of your wonderful facility at Camp Webster in Salina, Kansas. It is a most remarkable place, very well kept, very clean and staffed with excellent people. They are all very professional and were most eager to help us at any time we asked them and they did whatever we requested.
Your kitchen is your most valuable asset for a disaster situation and having the entire facility at one location is rare for us. We as a disaster service organization know the value of this great facility and hope to utilize it for other than disaster work, such as training.
Again, a sincere thank you to all for a job well done.
We, as Kansas and Nebraska Baptists, have been and can continue to be proud of Webster Conference Center as a vital part of our ministry. The new building will enhance everything that we are doing at the center. We need to make sure that the multi-purpose building is completed. Let’s join together and make sure that the new building gets done in 2008.
