Why I’m Glad I’m A Kansas/Nebraska Baptist
November 2007
I don’t know whether you were able to attend our annual meeting in Bellevue, Nebraska, but it was one of the best conventions that I have experienced in my twenty-three years in Kansas-Nebraska. It made me stop and remember a number of the things that I love about being a Kansas-Nebraska Southern Baptist. Let me share some of those things.
I love the fact that we are committed to planting new churches to spread the gospel through our two-state convention. We have continuously had this challenge before us. Much of the credit for that goes to Peck Lindsay and his passion for starting new works. Credit also goes to Bob Mills who leads our church planting team in KNCSB.
I love the fact that we are unashamedly evangelistic. The whole staff at KNCSB is committed to winning the lost to Christ in Nebraska and Kansas. Ken James leads that effort. Our Directors of Missions are passionately evangelistic. Our pastors have a deep desire to see the lost come to Christ.
I love the fact that we love missions. Mari Jaquith leads the effort to encourage Kansas-Nebraska Baptists to go overseas to share the gospel. Bob Mills and others challenge us to be involved with missions in North America. Churches throughout KNCSB are constantly going both to North America and to the world with the message of the gospel.
I love the fact that we are committed to winning our youth to Christ. Terry McIlvain has a passion to see teenagers come to Christ. Throughout KNCSB, churches are doing all they can to make sure that the youth around us are hearing the message of Christ.
I love the fact that we see ourselves as partners in the gospel whether we are pastoring churches, leading associations, or working with KNCSB. Recently, a national SBC leader was visiting in KNCSB. He was pleasantly surprised to see how well we worked together rather than competing with each other.
I love being a part of KNCSB. I hope you do, too.
